Medieval Coventry Conference
The ‘Medieval Coventry’, 29th September 2017, conference held in St Mary’s Hall and the Old Grammar School brought together expert speakers including Richard Goddard, Pamela King, Keith Lilley and Nat Alcock, to share latest research on the city’s economic and social history, drama, and art. There was also an opportunity to view some of Coventry’s important medieval documents at the History Centre, Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. The talks have been recorded on You Tube videos and are available to view.
Celebrations and Communities Conference
‘Celebrations, Communities and Performances: Festival Occasions in Coventry from the 15th to the 17th Century and their Legacy’, 20-22 April 2022 with the Society for European Festivals Research and Dr Margaret Shewring, Hon. Research Fellow of the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance, University of Warwick. The conference, held in Drapers’ Hall, brought together experts on medieval performance, art and music including Jamie Savan, Helen Roberts, Simon Pickard, Lynda Pidgeon, Miriam Gill and Beat Kumin, as well as contemporary approaches provided by Eleanor Chadwick and Alan Chalmers. The audience was treated to a performance of medieval music associated with Coventry by the Binchois Consort. The proceedings of the conference will be published in 2025.
St Mary’s Hall Conference
‘The St Mary’s Hall Tapestry, Coventry: Weaving the Threads Together’, was held on 27th September 2019 with contributions from Frederick Hepburn, George Demidowicz, Jonathan Foyle, Kate Giles, Maria Hayward, David Starkey and Mika Takami. The proceedings, together with further research, were published in 2024.
Charterhouse Conference
‘Coventry Charterhouse’ conference, was held on 7th October 2023 with Historic Coventry Trust at the newly restored Anglican Chapel, London Road Cemetery and the recently opened Charterhouse. Speakers included Miriam Gill, Pete Walters, Andy McLeish, Peter Coss, George Demidowicz, Nat Alcock, Deidre O’Sullivan and a contribution by Glyn Coppack.
